Who: Rich and Kathy
What: SoCal Getaway, Disneyland, and the Beach
When: May 27-30, 2016
Why: Kicking off Summer of 2016
We planned this trip every which way – from buying an Annual Pass to a 1- or 2-day ticket to no tickets. We made lunch and dinner ressies and cancelled them so many times. We’re hoping Disney is not keeping track – lol!
We figured we really wouldn’t know what we would do until we arrived. And we were so right. We just let the trip unfold naturally. As it turned out, it wasn’t a Disney trip or a beach trip but just a getaway and what really mattered was getting away from work, Las Vegas, and our very demanding cats. 🙂
We were finally able to get hotel ressies at the high-rise Residence Inn on Harbor Blvd. just a few miles from Disneyland. It was a little distant from our preferred location. In fact, it’s relatively new and located in front of the Hyatt, which we’d chosen not to return to because it seemed so far away.

We left about 15 minutes ahead of our usual time and arrived at the hotel at around our usual 1 pm on Friday, although we did hit some traffic and it was a bit tense there for a few miles. Normally, we rest up and get busy Friday night. It’s amazing how much we can accomplish on travel day. But when we arrived, the only room that was ready was a handicapped room. The manager said the only difference was the shower instead of a bathtub. That was so not true.
We were not happy with this room at all. It seemed small and unwelcoming. We’d planned on hanging out and sipping wine but the atmosphere was non-existence. So we thought we’d leave the room and head for Disney. But when the safe was also non-existent, Rich called the front desk and insisted on a room change.
We were given keys to a normal 1-bedroom suite and it was larger and exactly what we expected from a Residence Inn. It was also on a higher floor, which gave us a lovely view, unlike the first one which overlooked the air-conditioner units.
We were so tired at this point that we, gasp, decided to stay in. It was so unlike us not to at least get to Downtown Disney or Hearthstone Lounge and have our usual Habanero Margarita.
We ordered room service from Carolina’s, amazing authentic Italian food, and shared an Italian Sausage Sandwich and an Italian Meatball Sandwich. And we cracked open a couple of the mini wine bottles we’d brought with us.
It was a wonderful evening, just the two of us eating, sipping, and chatting without the cats demanding our attention.
We’re experimenting with videos (GoPro arrives Thursday) and we’ve uploaded them to our YouTube Channel.
