20th Anniversary Kickoff: Valentine’s Weekend, Day 1

Originally, we were booked in a one-bedroom suite at the Residence Inn, Garden Grove, just down the road from Disneyland. We had lunch reservations on Valentine’s Day at Carthay Circle – dinner was already booked. We would have to buy a park ticket just to get in the park for our lunch ressie.

Somewhere along the way, I saw this photo we’re using as a header pic and knew we had to stay at the beach. So we cancelled Disneyland and booked the Laguna Cliffs Hotel in Dana Point. It was fabulous! I always feel totally myself when I’m back at my Southern California beach cities.

It was a tougher drive than usual with a holiday weekend and driving to a farther destination than usual. When we passed our usual Katella exit, there was a bit of longing… but the extra effort driving was worth it when we arrived at our beach resort.

We enjoyed the ocean views, a walk around the property to the harbor, a day at Doheny Beach, a romantic and delicious Valentine’s dinner and a drive up PCH the next morning where we stopped off for breakfast at Norm’s in Huntington Beach. And then the long dusty drive home – never fun and even worse after enjoying a weekend at the beach.

First, we saw a “Woody” driving down I-5 on our way to Dana Point.

Then, we saw another at Laguna Cliffs Resort & Spa.

We checked into the resort and checked out the view.

A Room with a View.

Walked the path to check out the Harbor Views.

We’d planned to eat dinner at Cannon’s, but after enjoying our views and our privacy and being quite tired, we ordered a couple of BLTs from room service and called it a night. It had been a long day.
