Who: Rich and Kathy
Where: Huntington Beach
When: April, 2015
Why: AP Expiring
Our Annual Pass expires May 3 so we thought we’d get in a trip before the expiration date. We also have two free nights at our favorite little place in Huntington Beach so we’ll stay at the beach and drive to Disneyland one night. Since we didn’t do Disneyland Park last time, we’ll focus on that. Rich also promised me a Mickey balloon for old times’ sake. 🙂
In studying our previous version of the pre-trip report, we realized we may want to change it up and do it this way:
Rich is taking the usual Friday and Monday off so we’ll leave our home in Vegas about 9 a.m. and arrive at Huntington Beach at around 1 p.m. We were so tired on our last trip that we’re building relaxation into the trip. We’ll relax in the room and then have dinner at the beach (Las Brisas or The Deck in Laguna Beach?) and maybe a bonfire after.
Saturday morning we’ll set up our beach chairs and umbrella (weather permitting) at Corona del Mar. We’ll pick up some lunch before returning to the room to rest until evening.
Saturday night we’ll drive to Disneyland, valet the car at Downtown Disney, and walk through DD, take a quick look in World of Disney and enter DCA.
We’ll go straight to the Cove Bar and have a drink and maybe a snack.
Then we’ll exit DCA and enter Disneyland Park. Because we read that Toon Town may not be around in the future, we’ll stop in there. And while we’re over there, we’ll ride IASM.
Depending on how tired our feet are and the crowd level, we may or may not ride POTC and/or HM. We can then either walk back through Main Street or jump on the train in Toon Town and ride it back to Main Street Station.
We’ll exit Disneyland Park and enter DCA and stop in at Carthay Circle Lounge for a nightcap and snack or dessert. Then we’ll mosey on past Soarin’ (still closed) to tour our favorite gift shop, Rushin River Outfitters. We’ll exit the park at the GC, perhaps purchase that red wallet we saw on our last trip in the GC gift shop, and exit DD.
Should DD have Mickey balloons, we’ll pick one up there and then drive back to Huntington Beach.
Sunday morning we’ll hang out on Huntington Beach before driving home instead of waiting until Monday. This will give Rich some extra rest time at home before going back to work. This job is more challenging than the one he had in Vegas before (and we’re both older now) so we can’t keep ourselves as busy as we used to.
Over the summer, should we find ourselves in SoCal without an AP, we can do the beach, baseball, Downtown Disney and/or visit other theme parks in the area – much fun to be had! And, of course, the Grand Californian with Napa Rose and Hearthstone Lounge or Trader Sam’s at the Disneyland Hotel. Much fun to be had without an AP.
Somehow, someway, we’re hoping that the next Disney pre-trip report will be one for the Food & Wine Festival in October. And, hopefully, we’ll get to meet up with friends and family there, too. Hoping, hoping, hoping! If not, our backup plan is a Mexican Riviera cruise.
