Who: Rich and Kathy
Where: Huntington Beach
When: October 2014
Why: Beach/Halloween Disney Fix
I’d forgotten all about booking and cancelling a tentative October trip at the Grand Californian. Our plans have been quite fluid during this six months that Rich has no vacation. But we did book a beach trip to SoCal with plans for an evening at Disneyland Resort.
I’m not sure what rate we originally got but when Rich called to see if we could book the GC again, he discovered the only rooms available were concierge for almost $800 per night with taxes. Uh, I don’t think so. We’ll have to stick with our beach plans with a night at Downtown Disney (we have some serious points to spend) and perhaps a meal at Napa Rose Lounge. Hopefully, valet parking at Downtown Disney will be available.
Actually, I forgot to mention in our previous trip report that before we shuttled to Disneyland Sunday night, Rich called to see if the Downtown Disney parking lot would be open that evening since the Half-Marathon had been that morning. The CM was very nice and volunteered to find out for us. She discovered that they weren’t going to tear down the tents until after hours that night so it wouldn’t be available for the evening. We appreciate her effort to find out for us.
The other downside about the Labor Day weekend trip (a time we would never have chosen to go if we’d had any vacation), is that Haunted Mansion was cloed for the transition to the holiday version and there was a bit of scaffolding around the park in anticipation of decorating for Halloween.
We’d read in Sue’s report that WDW was already decorated for Halloween over Labor Day weekend, so we were surprised Disneyland was still in transition.
This trip will be practically a turnaround trip but we’re going back East in November and we want to get another Disney/beach trip in before the year is out.
