Birthday Cheers: No Flying Necessary

Like many people, I’m one of those people who like to reflect on what was happening personally on a certain date. And I remember the night before my birthday 9 years ago tonight.

It was toward the end of that endless year in Ohio and we were traveling to Florida as often as we could, hoping to move there for the first time. But that’s what Ohio did for us – it gave us the proximity to check Florida out – so much harder to do from the West Coast.

It was the night before a big milestone birthday – thank goodness the next big birthday doesn’t happen until next year. But, anyway, we were staying at the Yacht Club, we were in World Showcase in Epcot and there were a few showers, which kept the crowds light. And we were sitting at the Cantina and watching Illuminations.

It was one of those memorable moments and I remember feeling such awe and thinking, “If it all ended tomorrow, I would die a happy girl.” But it didn’t end then.

In fact, a lot happened since then – we moved to Orlando, Tampa, Orlando, Oregon, Las Vegas and back to Orlando. Whew!

As Michael Buble would say in Come Fly With Me, “What a frickin’ life I have.”

Now that makes me think of my first birthday in Las Vegas, 4 years ago, and we were sitting outside eating dinner at Mon Ami Gabi. The perfect ending was when the Bellagio Fountains across the street began playing Frank Sinatra singing Fly Me to the Moon and Rich took this pic of me.

And on that note, I’m going to start my birthday celebration with a glass of champagne, a piece of cake, and getting ready for our  WDW adventure. The beauty of living in Orlando is that no flying will be necessary.

Cheers!

Mon Ami Gabi is my favorite restaurant on the strip. I love the food, the wine selection, sitting outside watching the people walk and drive on the strip – and the fountains and music from the Bellagio after dark is the icing on the cake (or the cherry in your drink if you prefer). Have a great birthday Kathy! And when we’re sitting at Mon Ami Gabi in September we’ll raise a glass to you and Rich.

Well, I *had* to pop in and thank you, Lesley, for the birthday wishes. You and I have such similar tastes – Mon Ami Gabi, Las Brisas, WDW – Rich and I would love to have dinner with you and Tom the next time we’re in the same place at the same time. Sorry we’ll miss your Vegas visit.
