When we lived in the Bay Area, we established a holiday tradition of treating ourselves to a meal in a fine restaurant near Christmas.
The traffic coming south on I-4 from our house was quite busy, but we managed to pull into the valet at the Boardwalk resort just a few minutes shy of our 5:35 p.m. reservation. We made our way to Flying Fish and were seated promptly. We had a table for 2 near the window.
Soon, our server Tony greeted us. He was very friendly and attentive, and he was surprised that we knew what we wanted to order so quickly. Hey, it wasn’t our first rodeo at Flying Fish. Our menu was:

Everything was spectacular. From the moment we sat down, we were so thrilled that we took on the challenge of making our way back to living in Central Florida. It has been, and continues to be, somewhat of a difficult time getting settled, but as we sat there, we knew it was all worth it.
The appetizers are two of our favorites. Kathy’s crab cake was delicious and almost a meal in itself. Rich’s mussels were some of the best he’s had. The pesto crema was especially yummy.
Of course we both had to have the potato-wrapped snapper. This latest preparation is our favorite, and every bite was a delightful experience. The best ever.
We chose to drink the recommended pairing wine, the Deloach Barrel to Barrel Pinot Noir. It was a very strong and spicy Pinot Noir that paired perfectly with the snapper.
We decided that since this was our holiday meal, we would splurge on dessert too. We split a serving of the fantastic pear upside-down cake with ginger ice cream. Wow! And if that wasn’t enough, we both enjoyed a decadent espresso martini. The martini could definitely have been a dessert in itself.
After lingering over our sumptuous meal, we walked around the Epcot resort area loop, stopping in the lobby of the Beach Club, Yacht Club, and Boardwalk to gaze at and photograph the Christmas decorations. The gingerbread displays were especially lovely this year.
We also stopped in at the Screen Door General Store where we picked up another Disney Santa Mickey Fiber Optic Tabletop Christmas Tree. This is our second one, but we had to have the one with the red base.
After an incredible dinner and a pleasant holiday stroll, we headed home to relish the new memories we had created for this year’s Christmas.
